Directory Data File

When I right click a folder (or the start menu), 2 of the items on the
context menu are:
Add to Directory Data File
Remove from Directory Data File

Does anyone know what these are for? I've experimented by selecting them,
but they don't seem to do anything but take up space on my context menu. I
can't find these phrases in the knowledge base either.

Thanks in advance,
Phil

You can use Shell Extension Viewer to locate context menu additions:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html
*Tip: Non Microsoft/OS entries will be shown in a lighter background
to help locate 3rd-Party add-ons.

I downloaded & installed Shell Extension Viewer. However, it didn't list the 2
context menu items. Strangely, it also didn't list another context menu item,
Scan with eTrust PestPatrol, although I know what that one is for.

It also didn't give me any information about the function of any extensions.
Any other information about the 2 context menu items would be appreciated.

Thanks again.

Phil,

In case if they're implemented as static context menus, use this program to list them.

ShellMenuView - Disable/enable context menu items of Explorer:

Hi Ramesh:
I downloaded ShellMenuView. It did not show "Add to Data Directory File" or "Remove from
Data Directory File", but it did show "Scan with eTrust Pest Patrol".

I ended up just deleting the 3 keys & their subkeys at

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\

& that removed them. I'm still very curious where the first 2 came from. They were even
showing up when I right clicked the start menu.

Thanks again. I appreciate your time.
