Directdraw not working

I am trying to play a game that was installed and it keeps telliing me:
Unable to create a Directdraw surface game shutting down-A hardware only
Directdraw object creation was attempted but the driver did not support any
hardware. We ran a check to see if the computer had the right requirements
and it passed all. Not sure why it won't play, any help would be greatly
appreciated.
