My PC has a HP9100 CDRW. It came with Roxio DirectCD 3
which I used for backups. It worked fine in Win2000. I
just upgraded from WinXP and found that WinXP refuses to
load DirectCD, giving a message that the drivers might
cause unstability. This means that I cannot read my data
which I backed up via DirectCD. I hadn't closed off the
disc because I was planning to use it again in WinXP.

Roxio's only advice is to pay $100 to upgrade to EasyCD
version 6, they do not have a patch for ver3 to run in XP.

Is anyone aware of any other solution? can I get
DirectCD 3 to work in XP? Or can I get some other
software to read the disc.

regards,
Vossaka

If you don't want to pay that extra money and you wan't
to stay legal, then you have to find some freeware
burning program. Use Google to find.

Vossaka ... Yes, XP will not work with pre-EasyCD ver 6. DirectCD uses
packet writing, and HP offers a free download called DLA to enable packet
writing. It's available at http://tinyurl.com/hagy

It should work with your HP CD-Writer ... but read the 'Note' at the above
site. I don't have first-hand experience with reading DirectCD files with
DLA, but it might be worth a try.

Good luck ... Fred
