Go buy Roxio EZCD 6, remove the very old stuff you've got,
install and update.
If money is short, you can find Roxon ZED Basic 5.1 on-line,
it has an XP upgrade free to version 5.3.5

If the CDs were written via Direct CD, find an older PC (pre-XP), install
the old version of Easy CD, and copy the old CDs to disk. The write new
CD-Rs **without** using direct CD. Choose the format called Joilet, or if
that is not an option, then ISO9660. Many PCs can read CD-Rs in Joliet or
ISO format. Fewer PCs can handle direct CD format, and worse, there are
multiple incompatible versions of that software.

For the future, get rid of that old software and get an XP-compatible
version of Easy CD Creator, at least 5 plus patches, better 6 plus fewer
patches.

If you run into trouble uninstalling the old software, try the new Roxio
tool for removing all versions of Easy Cd Creator, or so they claim. (I
presume that you are aware that Roxio now owns Easy CD Creator? They split
from Adaptec a few years ago.)

A possible alternative to using a older PC to read the Cs is to try a free
program called ISOBUSTER. It can read CDs in more ways than can Windows XP,
so it may be able to get the data off of the CDs.
