WinXP has no DVD writing/burning support by default. That support is
provided by third-party software only, however, there this optional
update avalable:

DirectX is *not* a new thing since installed with WinXP by default. If
you have updated DirectX to the latest DX version 9.0c for WinXP, this
has nothing to do with your DVD drive.

If the DVD *media* is inaccessible, there is no fix. If the DVD *drive*
is inaccessible, repost if that drive appears correctly in the BIOS
setup, in the device manager, in "My Computer" and the exact error
message.
