I have Windows 2000 SP4, directx9.0
My motherboard is a gigabyte 7VA with avance ac '97
onboard sound.
The problem I have been having is with sound functions (up
until just recently I have had no issues with the sound).
Now, in certain programs I have no sound and I do not get
an error message. In one particular program I get an
error message that states as follows "DirectSound: Sound
device is being emulated through waveform-audio
functions. Sound quality will most likely be awful. Try
to update your sound device's sound drivers."
I went into the DirectX diagnostic tool and tested the
sound. It tested fine on the tests it ran but at the end
of the test it stated that my card did not support
hardware acceleration. The diagnostic tool also lists
under the sound device Name: Avance ac '97 (emulated).
I then proceeded to reinstall the sound drivers which
didn't fix the problem. So I then downloaded the latest
drivers which also did not fix the problem.
Finally I shelled out $50 for a Creative Soundblaster 5.1
card and installed it but ended up with the same problem.
Also I made sure to disable the onboard sound in the bios
and uninstall the old sound drivers.
Could this be caused by the upgrade to directx9.0? If so
how do I downgrade to 8.1?
Nothing I have done has worked and I am getting very
frustrated.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
