Hi,
I hope I am posting this in the correct forum. I am really
ignorant when it comes to networking or direct accessing
another pc. I am pretty good at the rest of pc
funcunallity thousg. Here is my situation. For days now I
have been trying to move my old files from my old pc
(windows 98) to my new pc (windows xp) by way of a direct
connection through the parallel ports. I have tried the
built in "file transfer function" (xp), on my new pc, I
have tried "pc-anyware", I've tried creating new
connections and still the pc's won't communicate. I'm sure
I'm doind somthing wrong I just don't know what. Could it
the parallel cord?. I am very frustrated. My coworker gave
me the "pc-anyware" and the cable and said it could be
done that way but it is trick. Boy was he right. I've been
on the web looking for instructions but it has to be me
that's not doing it correctly. I have a feeling it's easy
to the person who nows this stuff, but I am at a complete
loss inthis area. If it's not to much trouble, would
someone guide me or make a suggestion for for myself, the
novice?

Did you go though the steps in DCC connection wizard in
windows XP? in the network connection wizard window you
should have a DCC connection setup function, just folow
through and restart your PC.
another thing, the windows XP PC's only have one
parallel port asigned, so do you have anything els
connected to your pc through the parallel port? you only
got one! and can't have second connection!
I have a advice for you; you can buy a cat5 crossover
cable to connect two PC's via rj45 (look like telephone
jack with 8 wires instead of 4)ethernet port(windows xp
pc have duiled in one, and windows98 pc should have one
too), if they do just go through local area network
configeration, and restart your pc's.
anyway cat5 cable have a match higher bit rate then the
parallel port you will enjoy it beter.
