Hello,
I am trying to transfer files from an old Windows 95 PC to a new
Windows XP PC.

The two computers connect with a parallel cable ok, but the new
machine can't see the shared files on the old machine.

I would greatlly appreciate any helpful suggestions.

It might be easier, and quicker to just connect the old drive into the
new system.

Open up both boxes. Take out the hard drive from the old win95 pc and
plug it in to the cables that are currently connected to the cdrom/dvd
of the new xp pc.

boot the xp pc and the win95 drive should appear in the drive list in my
computer.

locate and copy the necessary files across.

post again if you get stuck.

I think with DCC only the guest computer can see the shared files
on the host computer. This would mean that the XP would have to
be the guest and the 95 machine the host. I think there is a
workaround for this, but it has been too many years to remember.
You could set the DCC session up for tcp/ip and use a server
aplication to make the files available for downloading. Google
for DCC info sites for a lot of info.
