Does anybody know of a DirectSound settings resetter? My sound card is
behyving weirdly, after playing DirctX games. Often an echo is applied,
as if the system sounds are played in a bathroom. I want to reset it to
a straight dry in-the-linvingroom (no echo) setting; but googling only
provides discussions on various multimedia programs or games.

The Gigabyte sound effects manager doesn't seem to have any effect. The
soundchip is from Realtek.

Ah, Information. A property, too valuable these days, to give it away,
just so, at no cost.

Double click the speaker in your task bar. Then click options in your play
control. Check advanced controls. Click properties.Click playback. Then
check the microphone box. Click OK. Then Mute the microphone. See if this
works for you...

Microphone wasn't selected, Stereo Mix was selected. And I cannot mute
the microphone, only un/select it in a radio button fashion.

I have no idea how this should affect the playing of sounds, either, as
there is no microphone attached, and this isn't a notebook, but a
desktop machine. However, I had a similiar effect kick in, in the midst
of a Morrowind session today, then it was gone. Something weird is
going on with the multimedia stuff.

BTW: I *told* which sound"card" it is, a

Realtek AC 97

on mainboard chip. old jon, please read more carefully.

Hi Gabriele, we often ask part questions to get further answers. We don`t
know what your system is if you don`t say. We don`t know what version of
Directx you use. Lots of information helps people to help you. (sorry about
the Realtek bit, but I`m getting old). best wishes..J

Windows Xp with DirectX 9.c: I thought, no one would expect an old
system, or I would have asked earlier.

I went through the msconfig entries and disabled several NVidiastart uo
applications, which seem to be multimedia related and unnecessary. I
also fetched the newest Realtek drivers (although I had fetched some
not that old ones before), and set the audio input to line in (where
nothing is attached).

At the moment, the system behaves normally (fingers crossed).
