How can I get IE to display the full URL addresses of pages I visit? I just
get the page title, like "Internet Explorer Newsgroup Home" on the top blue
bar. I've tried clicking on "Addresses" on the tool bar ut nothing happens.

Thanks.

No problemo. Go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab > remove the
checkmark from 'Show friendly URLs'.

Thanks for your response Ted.

Actually, 'Show friendly URLs' is already not checked. I've tried it both
ways, pressing "apply" and closing & restarting the program, and it doesn't
seem to have any effect.

Are you subject to a group policy setup by a network administrator?

No. this is just a home laptop. It's my wife's computer & she says that
originally she saw the full URLs, but doesn't know what happened. Maybe I
should reset everything....

The title in the titlebar of IE is dictated by the site, not by you. For
example, when visiting Intel's web site, "Intel" will appear in the
titlebar. Why? Because the HTML code for the page has:

<head>
<title>Intel</title>
....
</head>

So the site is dictating what string gets put in for the title of their
site. If you want to see the full URL, look in the Address bar.

Read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/176497/en-us. It describes what you
can change in the titlebar of IE. You get to change the *product* title.
The *page* title is still dictated by the web page's HTML code.

Thanks. But I have no address bar. That is what I am hoping to make reappear.

Hi Erok :-)

You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, which really is a
must when asking for help in the newsgroups, but, try the following as it
may apply
to your OS and see if it helps:

Try the following and see if it helps:

You will need to uninstall WinXP SP2 from Control Panel -> Add/Remove

If the Address bar is selected under the View -> Toolbars menu, it could be
that it is squashed to one side of the window or the other (i.e., it is at
the right-side edge so it cannot display anything of that toolbar or it on
the leftside and another toolbar is squashed against it). Look for the grab
handle to drag it into view.

It is also possible the toolbars get out of sync. Perhaps you added some
other toolbar and that corrupted the indexing used to reference the
toolbars. See http://www.popupcop.com/help/faq-toolbar.html#1.
