So I have been informed that VS 2010 does not offer smart device
support. My model has always been:

1) handheld device aka pocket pc to collect data in the field
2) return to office download and compile data on PC

This system has worked well for years.

I am ready to do new development but do not know which way to turn. Any
advice?

I can not use Internet or phones as the data is almost always collected
in remote locations without access to cell towers.

A tablet is too big as all of us are carrying other equipment and need
to minimize bulk. Think Dell AXMIN size.

It is certainly annoying and a major PITA (and frankly bewildering -
Is MS really that stupid? Apparently YES! <g>), but I wouldn't panic
yet. It is doubtful MS is abandoning this market, and it appears that
support is forthcoming.

If necessary you can still use VS2008 and there are plenty of copies
still available.

Otherwise - go shopping. There are also plenty of other companies
willing to suppy development packages that want your business even if
MS doesn't.
