Ive created a website that uses symbols in the text. more specifically im
using CARÜBBEAN. in my test site. http://www.transmyt.com/clients/junefest
username = admin
Password = admin

Everything displays fine, but when i published to the live site. It displays
as
CARЬBBEAN. im sure there must be a setting in FP 2003 to fix this? Please help

Set your page charset to
<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;charset=iso-8859-1">

Your server at http://www.junefest.net/ is sending an HTTP header:

Content-Type: text/html; charset=WINDOWS-1251

This will over-ride whatever is set in your pages.
The complete HTTP headers sent are:

Date: Sat, 20 May 2006 14:03:08 GMT
Server: Apache/2.0.50 (Fedora)
Last-Modified: Sat, 20 May 2006 13:39:34 GMT
Etag: "1bed567-e009-664eb180"
Accept-Ranges: bytes
Content-Length: 57353
Content-Type: text/html; charset=WINDOWS-1251

200 OK

I see CAR?BBEAN in FireFox and IE7 at http://www.junefest.net/
and CARBBEAN at http://www.transmyt.com/clients/junefest

The HTTP headers from transmyt.com are:

Date: Sat, 20 May 2006 14:16:58 GMT
Server: Apache/1.3.27 (Unix) (Red-Hat/Linux) mod_ssl/2.8.12
OpenSSL/0.9.6 PHP/4.1.2 mod_perl/1.27 FrontPage/5.0.2.2510
Last-Modified: Fri, 19 May 2006 22:35:36 GMT
Etag: "211a0bb-dd03-446e4838"
Accept-Ranges: bytes
Content-Length: 56579
Content-Type: text/html

200 OK

These do not change your page settings.

Correct - it would, in my opinion, be better to remove the charset
header from the server than change it to another charset, which may
cause problems down the line (such as when you need UTF-8, for
example).
