When we were on Access 2000 on Win2000, we had no problem sharing MS Access
on our company lan. I would go in there to update info and make changes, and
my counterpart would do the same. Only when she has a specific table or
query open, I was not allowed to edit it. This is fine.

However, with XP and Access 2003, I had to install a digital certificate
which I created by following the instructions in Help. I created my own
digital certificate, my counterpart created her own and we both installed in
our own machine. I made my computer trust hers and vice versa. For the most
part, this works okay except when she has Access open on her computer and I
want to alter a query. She's not using this query, so I don't know why I get
the following error:

"Microsoft Office Access cannot add a digital signature to your file because
Access cannot gain exclusive access to the file. Make sure no oter person or
program has the file open and try to add the digital signature again."

What can I do so that I don't have to have exclusive access to the file to
modify a query?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Susan

There's really no getting around this. You need to have it opened
exclusively to modify it.
