difficulty booting XP from secondary HD

i recently installed a formatted 120GB HD (XP Pro w/ SP1
installed) onto another computer with an existing 40gb HD
with XP pro installed. XP detected the newly installed HD
properly, however i cannot gain access to some folders
(namely system folders, my documents, etc.) on the 120GB
HD. i tried adjusting the sharing/security properties of
the folder, but that didn't work. i still get an "Access
Denied" error message.

so i tried re-routing the IDE cables, adjusting the
jumper pin settings as necessary, so that the 120GB HD
would be the master drive, and hoped that i could boot XP
from that drive. however my comp just hangs right after
the BIOS screen and i just get a black screen. i rebooted
only to get the error msg "XP did not load properly
etc..." with the usual safe boot, normal boot, safe boot
w/ command prompt... options. none of them work and i
still can't get XP to boot from the 120GB drive.

is there any other way to logon or boot XP from my 120GB
drive?
