I have searched dilligently on the Internet and found nothing. I hope you can
explain a change in the behavior of my WIN XP Pro SP2 operating system.

I just exchanged Dell Inspiron 600m notebook computers, with presumably
identical installed and current XP Pro operating systems. When I shut down,
the closing screen options are very different. The new computer has a text
box that is
titled "Shut Down Windows", with a drop down menu of five selections.

The other computer offers a very simple box titled "Turn off computer" with
three icons - Standby, Turn Off and Restart. The Standby icon changes to
Hibernate if I hold the Shift key.

I am used to this latter screen and am wondering if you could explain the
difference and tell me how to get the icon screen. It's not critical, but it
does have me puzzled. Many thanks.

Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > User Accounts
and click on "Change the way users log on or off".
Place a check next to "Use the Welcome Screen" and
then click on "Apply Options".

Carey,
A simple, and most helpful answer - thanks!
