You don't specify what backup software you're using.
But, with Backup Express, from SyncSort, Full (Base), Inc, and diff are
defined like this:
1. Full (Base) backup gets everything.
2. Inc backup gets everything that changed since either the last full
(Base) backup or the last Inc backup; which ever happened last.
3. diff backup gets everything that changed since the last Full (Base)
backup. Whether or not it changed after the previous diff backup. The
last sentence is important. Under Backup Express, you would get
multiple backups of files that were changed after the last Full (Base)
backup, even if they only changed once before the next Full (Base)
backup. So, even if you ran an Inc and then a diff, the diff would still
backup the file, because the Backup Express catalog would show the
file as having changed since the last Full (Base) backup.
I'd suggest talking to your backup software vendor to clarify how their
software handles the different backup scenarios.
Mark :-)
