Can someone please give me a (very short) rundown of major networking
differences between Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate as
compared to the XP editions?

I looked at this website
(http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvist...s/default.mspx), but
it is so full of buzzwords and marketing hype I can't tell the real
differences.

Example...
XP Home:
Cannot join Domain
Does not have Administrative Shares
Does not include "Administrator" logon by default (only in Safe mode)

XP Media Center:
Cannot join Domain
Does not have Administrative Shares
Does not include "Administrator" logon by default (only in Safe mode)
Includes enhanced device specific drivers and the Media Center Application

XP Pro:
Can join a Domain
Includes Administrator Shares
Can logon as Administrator in normal mode

How do the above listed features translate to the Vista Editions?

Thanks,

-Frank

Although I realize this isn't why you poisted the part about MCE and
Administrative shares I believe is incorrect.. I will have to
doublecheck that.

Could be wrong. I don't have a Media Center machine around to check now
either I was just assuming... and I know what they say about that. LOL.

Yea. I just checked it with my laptop. I connected to \\MyMachine\c$
just fine. Please note that in order for the administrative shares to
work I believe you have to turn off simple file sharing. I believe this
to be the same on XP Pro...

Gotcha. So, XP Media Center does have admin shares. Thanks.
