Different Outlook '07 Backup Problem

Not having done this before and knowing of no other way to do it, I backed up
Outlook '07 by exporting Program Files (and everything else I could think of)
to an external HD. I've reinstalled Outlook from the disc but now can't find
everything I had in Contacts, Notes, Power Point, etc. I have a lot of data
in Outlook that would be a huge problem if lost.

I've read the posts here I could find but they don't address my particular
situation. I would greatly appreciate any assistance offered. Thanks

Exporting Programs does not create any sort of usable backup, for
anything!!!
How to backup up Outlook data is posted here on a daily basis, and is
detailed on MS Outlook site, or could be found from a simple google search

Did you format your disk & reinstall Vista, or did you simply uninstall
Outlook & reinstall it?
Why did you uninstall?

Using such a method loses settings and other data, as explained here on a
daily basis, and is not the best method to reconnect an old pst

My HD was crashing so I backed up everything as quickly as I could. I'm not a
power user and I didn't know that backing up Outlook required anything
different. I took my pc to the place where they built it to have it repaired.
They put a new HD in. They created a Saved Data folder on the Desktop and
there is an Outlook folder there. In it are Archive & Backup files with 513kb
& 256kb each and I don't know if my Contacts, Notes, and PP are in there.

Tried Outlook/File/Import Export/Import from another program or file but
didn't see Contacts, Notes, PP, etc. The closest I could find was Personal
Address Book but that didn't work. I'm also not able to copy import/export
..pst files and following up on what I read about doing so didn't work
either....just link after link after link of more info.

I really need to recover this data and really appreciate your efforts to
help me.

Are these files labled Archive.pst & backup.pst?
If they are, start Outlook, use File>Open>Data File ..........browse to and
open archive.pst see what it contains.
You can do the same with the backup.pst (*only* if named *.pst)

Hey DL - I did as recommended <File>Open>Data File ..........browse to and
open archive.pst see what it contains> but nothing happens when I try to
open these files...which are .pst files. I thought this was going to do it
Any other thoughts?

Why is this so involved? Everything else was easily reinstalled...same
computer, same Product Key.

Once you open the pst, you need to look in folder view pane for this new set
of personal folders & expand them to see what it contains.

Recovering data is not so simple as installing an application from cd

Sounds to me like the PC place didn't know what they were doing. You should
have an Outlook.pst as well (although there's nothing magical about that
name).
