Different Header or Footer

I am using Word 2007 and would like to be able to change my header/footer in
subsequent pages. Example - Pages 1-4 would say Exhibit 1, Pages 5-8 would
say Exhibit 2, Pages 9-15 would say Exhibit 3, and so on. I have tried
unlinking to previous but it changes all my headers to what I just typed in.

I think I have read every post regarding this and tried different types of
breaks, different and so far I'm not having any luck.

Am I missing something? Easy instructions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

You need to have section breaks between pages 4 and 5, and between pages 8
and 9, and so on.

With that done, I would then start in the last section, turn off Link to
Previous, and work my way forward until sections 2 through n (where n is the
last section) all have Link to Previous turned off. It should then be
possible to have distinct headers/footers.

You can do this by alternating between the Link to Previous button (which is
a toggle that looks pushed in when LtP is turned on) and the Previous
Section button.

Note also that Footers and Headers can have different Link to Previous
settings. So, if you want both headers and footers to have Link to Previous
turned off, then will need to perform the exercise for both (using the Go to
Header and Go to Footer buttons as needed).

I think you can use the StyleRef field to pick up Headings to do what
you want to achieve. If "Exhibit" in your document is assigned a
unique heading style this can be done by Inser/Field [StyleRef] <choose
the exhibit style>. If you don't want to have Exhibit appear in yr body
text, put it in anyhow, with a white font so it is there but doesnt
show.

Thanks for all the help. I finally figured it out. It is mostly in the
sequence of doing things. Working backwards is definitely a good idea.
