Different Dictionary Issue

I know there are a number of dictionary issues, but this one seems different.
There are words in our custom dictionary that will come up during a spell
check, but others that don't. For instance, we could have Idylwile in the
custom dictionary, and a search of "idylwile" turns up no results, but
another word that's in the custom dictionary will turn up when that word is
in there. The box limiting it only to the main dictionary is not checked, and
nothing is greyed out, so we really can't understand what's going wrong. Any
ideas?
