Hey. I have an old dual processor Intel 440GX motherboard. I was
wondering, if I replaced the PIII 550 CPUs with 2 XEON of the same speed,
what would the difference be? Would there be real performance gains? I
would want to set the system up as a Linux
server/browser/filesharer/distributed computing system. I would run WinXP
Pro at times and Linux at other times, dual boot. The motherboard has
SCSI. I can use the PIII CPUs in other systems, so I was thinking about
this.

So what kind of gains would I see?

Xeons are Slot II not slot 1 so they will not fit, they are about the size
of a house brick they do not carry MMX instructions.
