POP3 is the latest version, May 1996. Choose this option when configuring an
email client.

Can anyone post a 'POP explanation for dummies' type of description
giving the difference(s) between POP, POP2, and POP3? Say, in one
sentence or two - that says how they evolved, and how each differs?

Thanks

You could start here.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/POP3

There are some references to RFCs (request for comments)
and you can see that the standard becomes more complex and
adds features with each one. Maybe the authentication features
could be considered an advantage of POP3.

http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1939.txt POP3
http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1081.txt POP3
http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc937.txt POP2
http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc918.txt POP

Looking in the "references" section of each RFC, will lead
you to previous ones.

From a downloadable Gateway manual, it says:

"Turn on your computer, then press F1 to open the
BIOS Setup utility"

I would never have thought of that. I'd still be thumping
on the key :-)
