Hi There!

Can anyone tell me how I can tell whether the XP Pro CD that came with my
new PC is the full version, or whether , as I am fairly sure, it is a Rescue
CD version, even though I specified the full version when I ordered.

Is there anything on the CD itself? Can you tell us what does it say?

Thanks.

Stick the CD in your drive, open My Cmputer, look at the drive you stuck the
CD in.

The Volume Label (The name of the disk) will show up there.

Go to one of the following (probably the last) and look it up.

For example...
I have these two CDs...
Volume Label: X1APFPP_EN is XP Pro SP1a Full English
Volume Label: X1AHCCP_EN is XP Home SP1a Upgrade English

Known RTM (SP0) CD Labels (Windows XP) - TACKtech Corp.

Known SP1 CD Labels (Windows XP) - TACKtech Corp.

Known SP2 CD Labels (Windows XP) - TACKtech Corp.

Locate in the i386 folder, a file named Setupp.Ini. This file contains
the description of what kind of XP disk you have. Check by Editing
the file and locate Pid. It will take the form of 8 characters. The first 5
describe what kind of XP disk it is (Full, Upgrade). The last 3 digits
define the type of disk (Retail, OEM, VLK)
For example: XP Pro OEM Generic is 55274OEM

This does not help the OP!! He wants to know what CD has he got? The
restore CD may just contain the OEM's own program to restore from
images.
Also, most restore CDs don't have i386 folder. Only the OS Cd has this.
