Past tense is not required here. Works still is a suite of programs (word
processor, spreadsheet/database) for "lite" users. Works Suite has (since
Word 2000) included a full version of Word, along with a handful of other
useful apps. The current version of Works Suite is W.S. 2004, which includes
Word 2002, though no doubt it will soon be updated to include Word 2003. If
you don't need any other Office apps, this is the cheapest way to get Word;
the whole suite lists for $49.99 at Office Depot, and there's a $15 mail-in
rebate in effect. You can install just Word and throw the rest of the
programs away and still be way ahead of the game.
