For the server I'm using (and I guess for everyone)
1) there are only 250 current messages in that group
2) about 150 are about the enlagrement of certain bodyparts, things you
never new were physically possible, Nigearian philantropes and people to
show you how to get rich with paypal or just $5,-
3) I found at least 30 messages asking serial numbers for freeware, or about
burning 'freeware' (like office 2003 ;-) ) on CD
4) Dutch, Russian and other languages are as common as English
5) I don;t think this group is broadcasted word-wide. It has at least less
subcribers

There is the ocasional message about software that might be freeware, but it
is a rarity.

Iow: It is all about Spam & Warez.

The difference is the word "binaries" (or derivative thereof) which means the group exists not for discussion but for the posting of files.

So? They are just two additional groups...one for discussion the other for binaries. There *are* frequently multiple groups for the same subject you know. As for any difference, load them and see...

I think it happens mostly only to groups that "die" from general usage so
the spambots take over thus keeping it (alt.comp.freeware.discussion) on
life support. For now, though, I've not been able to post anything thru
acfd using google (if anyone else has, then goody for you).
