Hey All, my hp 541C after about 2 years of use has suddenly refuse to
power-up. Initially the system would bootup and function properly
from anywhere from an hour to less than 5 minutes. Then the video
freezes typically with vertical lines of different widths from top to
bottom of the display; resetting causes the video to go completely out
and the sytem locks-up. I am in the initial stages of troubleshooting
and wonder if some out there may have some idea what is happening. I
have checked the power supply voltages and they appear to be well
within the operating limits. I am running XP with AMD processor.

My next step will be to video pci card and bypass the one on the board
as suggested by a friend. Does anyone out there have any idea what is
going on with my system or have any troubleshooting suggestions. Any
help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

My first thing to look at would be video drivers.

You need to know what video card (or on board graphics) you are using, then
try updating or reinstalling the drivers for it.
