Hello (again) all...
I've got a DeskJet 5850 that experienced a firmware disaster a while back.
Ever since then the onboard NIC hasn't functioned. Apparently the firmware
provided in the HP Download Manager is no good for this printer, although
the documentation stated that the updated firmware could solve a problem I
was having with WPA and the network link being randomly dropped. Silly
me--trusting HP to provide a working firmware upgrade for this
printer--people on the WWW have commented that the firmware I tried does not
work and will "brick" the printer's onboard NIC! If only I'd read that
*first*.
For now I can use the printer over USB, but the network card is out of
commission. The only thing that seems to be running is an HP 'short stack'
FTP server. My question is (being as HP tech support has been useless in
regards to this problem) might anyone have a working firmware image that I
could attempt to download to the printer using the FTP server?
