Brian - I had both Personal Folder and Archive Folder on my Folder list in
Outlook.
The Archive File was located in Local
Settings/Applications/Microsoft/Outlook.pst with other Outlook Files. One day
last week the Archive file was replaced by another Personl Folder in Outlook
File and did not show up on the Folders List so I went to the files and found
the Archive File missing replaced by a Backup File containing my Current
Folders only. I did a *.pst search and found nothing else. Two of my recent
downloads andinstalls were: MS Outlook Connector and MS Personal Folders
Backup. Thank you for your time.

That's the default location for the creation of any PST, yes.

This can't "just happen". You can right-click an archive PST and chose
Close to remove it from the folder list, but as long as archiving is still
enabled and Tools>Options>Other>AutoArchive still shows it, it will still be
the active archive PST. What did you or someone else do on the PC?

Did you have "show hidden files and folders" enabled? If you open Windows
Explorer and enter
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook in the
Address bar, then click Go, do you see it?

Neitehr of these will affect the definition of the archive PST.

No one else uses this PC.

If I inadvertanty deleted the file, I am not aware of taking such action.

Can placing too much data in an archive file cause systems problems?

Again, thank you for your time and interest!

An Outlook 2003 PST can hold up to 20 GB as a minimum maximum and that
number can be increased in the registry.

You get warned before the 20 GB is reached.
