Where did the messages go?

On 10/20/2011, I opened a thread entitled "Optical drive misidentified
by Windows XP". And there were a number of replies in the thread.

Just a few minutes ago, I went to revisit that thread, and all the
messages were gone, except for the first and last message, both written
by me.

I considered the possibility that Thunderbird was the problem, so I
unsubscribed from this newsgroup. That caused Thunderbird to crash.
:-( After Thunderbird restarted, I resubscribed to this newsgroup, but
the messages are still missing.

Any idea what may have happened?

My news server shows only 2 messages in that thread.
Both yours.

Yes, and at both links, only two messages when there definitely should
be more.

I only see two posts, too. I assume the posts I
see are cached locally. Is it possible that you mixed
up that post with one of the other CD drive-related
posts/threads?

You know what???? You're right, I was thinking of different thread I'd
started, as the two ended up being related, after I'd solved the problem.

With your question, and some searching, it dawned on me that no one ever
responded to the question, which in and of itself surprised me.

After solving the problem, it occurred to me I should post my own reply,
so anyone with a similar problem might look to the software for what
seemed like an OS problem.

Thanks for the question, Mayayana.
