Where did changes to my attachment go after I changed it in Word?

I opened an attachment and edited it, then just clicked save before closing
the file. Were the changes really saved? If yes, where can I find them?

The changes were saved to a temporary file, which was most likely deleted when
you closed Word. You may be able to recover the file; see
http://www.gmayor.com/outlook_attachments.htm.

In the future, never edit an attachment directly; save it to a real file and
then edit that.
