Dialup Networking Problems

Hey folks

I've got an issue with Windows 2000 Professional. It's a
fairly old install, running on a Toshiba Satilite 1800 S-
254 laptop.

I've checked the machine for viruses and spyware,
revealing nothing. Also, I've done all the windows updates
to the computer. However, whenever I dialup, and try to
run a script when dialing, I get an explorer.exe error and
he connection is forced to close as well as the Windows
start bar reinitialize. But, when I use a dialup
connection that doesn't require a script, everything works
as should be.

Any assistance or tips you folks would have to remedy this
problem would be appreciate. Thanks,

-Bill

Hi Bill,

In order to have post-connection scripts run over a dialup connection, you will need to use
CMAK (Connection Manager Adminstration Kit). There is extensive information in the 2000
Help file for this kit and explains pre- and post- connection options.

Without using CMAK, the scripts will not run.

Thanks,
Gary

Bill,
I have the same problem. A CMAK connection causes a Explorer Access
violation as soon as a script is enabled. If I create a manual entry
and enable a script it works fine. I have found that Uninstalling SP4
fixes the problem.
A better solution is:
- Uninstall the (Pre SP4 CMAK), see Q266793 for info.
- Build a new CMAK on a Win2000 SP4 PC.
- Install the new SP4 CMAK build, all will be magically fixed.

BTW: Gary is not correct about script only running with CMAK, a
standard Dial-up connection will run a script if you specify one in
the DUN entries Security tab. We use a script to force PAP
authentication when connection via Telstra Dial connect.

John Facci

OOPS,
I hit send prematurely, Building a new CMAK on a Win2000 SP4 didn't
solve the problem. I logged a call with MS, and sent them of some dump
files. The hotfix from the following article fixed the problem
