dialup connection constantly pops up while using broadband connection

I connect to the internet by broadband most of the time, but also have to
keep a couple of dialup accounts for maintaining a couple of websites.

Whilst using the net in general, via broadband, the network connection
dialog box frequently pops up half-way through loading a web page. It
suspends the loading of the new page, and offers my dialup accounts for the
connection. This is so frequent, it is quite maddening. Does anyone know how
to stop this behaviour?

My system is:

Windows XP Professional
Norton Internet Security 2005
Firefox and IE6 Browsers

-- all fully updated over the broadband connection.

Broadband connection is via ethernet lan, to an ADSL Modem/Router.

Thanks in anticipation
Alan

Alan,

In the browser configuration (Tools - Internet Options - Connections), select
"Never dial a connection". Then see if you're having service problems. Either
DNS or MTU problems might trigger this, and both DNS and MTU problems can be
intermittent and seemingly random.

That has fixed the problem, and saved my sanity.

Many thanks, Chuck
