On one (out of six) computer in our office we have a weird problem.
Many dialog boxes (especially when installing software) display font sizes
so big they extend "outside" the box. This usually includes check boxes, so
no user input is possible. Has anyone ever heard of a problem like this, and
does anyone know if anything can be done about it?

I think it is this...

To get there right click on the desktop.
Select Properties
Click on Appearance
Click on the Advanced options
Find the one (it may be more than one) that has been set to really high font
sizes. It can vary.
They're selected by clicking on the area in the top graphic section, click
on that section and it will let you adjust it.

Try changing yoiur DPI setting: control panel> display> Settings
tab-->advanced button

Thanks for the reply.
The problem is NOT with the screen in general, only INSIDE a dialog box.
None of the standard Windows font adjustments have any effect on that text.

I remembered one occasion wherein I tried playing with the screen resolution
and the DPI settings corrected the problem. Then I just returned the settings
back. Have you triedd changing the settings?

I have the same problem, and in some dialogs you can not enter data.
ie.. MS Office Frontpage 2003 the color dialog, RGB is normally 3 digits I
can only now enter 2. With me this started after installing Windows XP SP3.
I then unistalled it again, but still have the same problem. I also noticed
that these dialogs can not be resize (dragging from the corner etc)

I have tried many settings anywhere I can find them (display properties ->
settings -> advanced; ->appearance -> font size; screen resolution;
whatever).
I haven't had time (and still don't) to try every possible combination, so
maybe there is one that will do something, but so far they only effect the
overall display and do nothing for the dialog boxes.

FIXED!!!!!!
Had a few minutes to spare, so I thought I'd begin to systematically step
through the various combination of settings. In the Display Properties ->
Settings -> Advanced screen, the DPI setting has an option for "Custom".
Setting that to a small number (I think it was around 50 dpi) caused a
message to pop up saying I needed a file from the XP CD. I put the disk in,
the computer found something it liked (I have no idea what), and voila! -
proper dialog boxes.
Apparently, installing Windows doesn't completely install Windows.
