dial-up problem in xp

Hi everybody,
in work we use a xp machine to share an internet connection (dial-up)
and it's all fine until something (maybe the noisy phone lines - i
live in ecuador) bring the connection down but the problem is when i
try to reconnect to my isp. it appaently reconnects but the machine
and nobody in workgroup can navigate.

it is an xp problem? or is a modem problem? (i have an hsp56mr modem)

any suggestions
