IN XP's DIAL-UP NETWORK CONNECTION, THE SAVE PASSWORD
CHECK BOX ENABLED, CAUSES THE THS PASSWORD TO MORE THAN
DOUBLE THE NEXT TIME IT IS USED.
WHAT AM I MISSING?

If you mean it shows more characters than your password has, that is
normal.
It is a security feature to mask the actual length of the password.
Just continue on as if all is normal...because it is.
