Was that the latest version of Easy CD Creator by the way?
If devices are having a problem, they will have a yellow circle
with an exclamation mark on them in Device Manager.
Since this was working previously,
you might want to employ MSCONFIG for troubleshooting.
MSCONFIG is "System Configuration Utility" and is meant
to be used as a troubleshooting tool. The end goal is to be able
to keep MSCONFIG in Normal mode and not have the issue
anymore.
Click on Start - Run - type in "msconfig" (without quotes) -
click OK or press Enter
In System Configuration Utility, is it presently in Normal Startup?
It should be. If it is in Selective, then most likely some Startup Group
items
have already been unchecked.
Click on the Services tab at the top.
Put a check in "Hide all Microsoft Services" at the bottom border.
Then you will be seeing a list of non MS services.
Uncheck all of these non MS services by clicking on the "Disable all"
button.
Click "Apply" at the bottom.
(Every time you go back to the Services tab, you have to recheck the box
to Hide all MS Services in order to just check on the non MS services)
Now click on the Startup tab at the top.
If MSCONFIG was in Normal when you first brought it up,
all of the items in here will be checked.
If MSCONFIG was in Selective, then some of these will be unchecked.
If that is the case, make note of which ones are already unchecked.
Now uncheck all of the Startup items by using the Disable All button.
Click Apply and then Close and then click on Restart.
The system restarts and a message from MSCONFIG comes up.
Click OK and MSCONFIG loads again.
Click on Services tab and Hide all MS Services again.
Verify that all of the non MS Services have stayed unchecked.
Click on the Startup tab and verify that all of these have stayed unchecked.
Click CANCEL at the bottom.
Now try making your Dial Up Connection.
Did it work?
If yes, then you have just determined that some non MS Service or Startup
item
is what is causing the issue.
Now it becomes a tedious process of elimination to determine which one by
bringing back
these non MS Services and Startup items a few at a time untill the issue
occurs again.
You have to restart each time you make a change to MSCONFIG in order to test
the issue in the new configuration.
