Dial-up connection window keeping popping up and disappearing / windows XPSP2

Hi - I was playing around with the connection settings in my Network
connections and something I did caused a "Dial up connection" window to
keep popping up and disappearing when connected thru DSL connection.
Just appears, holds for less than a second and then disappears. The
window appears on top of everything else, so the focus shifts and
throws everything out of gear...

Using Windows XPSP2

Had the same problem, an older version of Classic Phone Tools was the
culprit.

HTH.

Hmmm - where would that be located? And how do I uninstall that?

Thanks!

BVRP Classic Phone Tools should appear when you click on All Program from
the Start Menu. If you have a Dell or Gateway computer, odds are that your
PC came with Version 4.24 or earlier. When you try to configure the
software, the Location Tab sets the Network Type as "dial up" with no other
choice to pick from. When you invoke help, the following help screen
appears:

Network type

This list allows you to select the network through which you will
communicate. This is generally automatically selected. Also, depending on
the software version and on the communication material you use, you may have
only one selection in the list.

So that baby was the culprit.

HTH!

Sorry - I checked - I dont think I have that software. Its an unbranded
PC - no inbuilt/included software.

My Network connections shows:

Broadband:
MTNL
LAN or High-Speed Internet:
Local Area Connection 2 - for the above (it mentions the DSL
modem)
phoneline - another connection

The popup appears continuously and just in case I accidentally press an
key while the popup is displayed - the DSL connection dies... the popup
remains in place and I have to kill it via task manager.

Well then, you have another application running in the background which is
attempting to connect to the internet via a dial-up connection. Check the
settings/configuration of recent software installations. Failing that,
check all applications that connect to the internet, for software updates or
otherwise ... perhaps a setting was inadvertently changed. That's about all
I can think of. Good luck!

In net work dialup switch to never dial from Internet options in control
panel should stop the conflict
