Dial-Up Connection

WINDOWS XP Pro: when using my dial-up connection, the system hangs or even
freezes. Sometimes I dial through the application itself, i.e. Outlook
Express or IE,
and that particular program seems to work. Other than that the system is
doing sweet all. I have set my internet connection the the required
parameters. A friend of mine had the same problem, and it only occurs with
dial-up, not broadband. Can somebody please help?
