When I boot Windows XP Home, I get a black window that says
SSDIAG activated
new _DIAGWINDOW(DrvnQ117)
delete _DIAGWINDOW(DrvnQ117)
new _DIAGWINDOW(DrvmCDB)
delete _DIAGWINDOW(DrvmCDB)
new _DIAGWINDOW(DrvnCDB)
delete _DIAGWINDOW(DrvnCDB)
new _DIAGWINDOW(DrvnPPqT)
delete _DIAGWINDOW(DrvnPPqT)
It is there every time I log onto the system, but I don't know what it
is. It's been appearing for about 2 weeks. I'd like to remove it after a
proper interpretation of what it is. Thanks

Looking over Google's search results, ssdiag.exe could be a part of Sonic
software for CD/DVD burners. There is also a Unix tool that uses that file
name: http://www.equinox.com/products/port-management/ssdiag/

First step for you is to find out what the ssdiag.exe file belongs to.
Locate the file using Search. If located in a program folder with the
friendly name of the program (or parent program) displayed, you'll know the
answer to the "what is it" part of your question.

If the file has been dropped into the Windows folder or Windows subfolders,
right click on it and select properties. If lucky, there will be enough
information in the properties sheets to determine the source of the file.

Obviously, ssdiag is a diagnostic tool. These are used to gather
information. That it has suddenly appeared may mean that it normally runs
silently at startup and only appears on screen if there is a problem with
its associated component.

Once the source of the file is determined, you need to find out why it is
appearing and, if it is indicating a problem, resolve it. You should be
able follow up on this part using the relevant company's support resources.
