i rean a diagnostic test on my dell windows xp. everything passed except i had 1 error. it said IDE CDRW - CONFIDENCE TEST FAIL - msg: IDE device failed: incompatible cd for testing. does anyone know what this means and how i can fix it. my cdrw came with my dell computer when we purchased it. thank you if anyone can give me some advice.

Did you have a CD in the CD Drive when you performed the test?
If not, the test will indicate it failed because there was no CD to
perform the test with. In any case, just ignore this test result.

Did you have a CD in the drive when you ran the test? If not try it again
with a known good commercial disc in. (game or other software CD) If memory
serves when I ran the diagnostics on my Inspiron it gave that result if the
drive was empty.

Dell forums and the Newsgroup alt.sys.pc-clone.dell are both good resources
for help with your Dell computer.

it to read,music CD is fine.If it works you have no
problem with it,it may just be sharing.don't worry be
happy,don't fix what's not broke.
