Diagnosing Windows

Hi,

I've got a few problems with my Windows XP:

- black screen when waking up from sleep or hibernation (the system
runs normally, but the display in my laptop is turned off)
- sometimes I'm unable to log in under the other user account I have
(I click on it, then the desktop shows for a little while and then I'm
back to the login screen)
- sometimes when I switch users, video goes to 640x480, 16 colors and
I can't set it to the normal values (it looks as if the video driver
was unloaded)

Funny things. I was wondering if there was any other way to solve
these problems than reinstalling. Could you point me to some means of
diagnostics ?

I did a system file check. Event Log doesn't say anything
interesting..

Thanks
