Diagnosing Program Failure without Error Message

I'm trying to run a commercial program. It's a new version and I
can't get it to run. I have used the last five versions worked fine on
XP, and other users have made it work on XP. A splash screen comes up
but then the program simply disappears. Is there anyway to figure out
what Windows error occurred? Thanks.
