Hi all,

I'm looking for a DHCP server, or DHCP relay agent that can work on a
Windows 98 desktop. My problem is the following: I have segments all Windows
98 (no NT machines) and I need to provide DHCP for them. How can I do that?

Thanks in advance

If my email address starts with two 'f'
drop the first 'f' when mailing me.

Faustino,

I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to do, but going on my assumption
about your intentions you should know that there is a DHCP service in
Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). If your intent is to give your Win98 PCs
an IP address across a LAN, ICS will do it. You should also know that
broadband routers also have a DHCP service in them, should you decide to go
this route.

Good Luck.

There are 3rd party servers which claim to work on Win2k Pro. Don't know
about Win98. See eg:

If it were me, I'd get a cheapo router/firewall that can do DHCP as well as
NAT.

Same here, if all I wanted from DHCP was an address. But DHCP can do more.

The e-mail address in our reply-to line is reversed in an attempt to
minimize spam. Our true address is of the form che...@prodigy.net.

With Win98? Forget it. The real question is why do you need to prvide
DHCP? If it is a valid and justifiable reason, then that justifies buying a
Server, otherwise there isn't much point in it. DHCP is always an "option"
or maybe a "luxury", but I cannot think of a reason for it to be required.

Download 602LAN Suit (do a google search for it). It acts as a DHCP server
as well as internet and email Works fine on W98 and is free for up to 5
users.
