DHCP will not renew, plus more

In the past three weeks i have seen two computer with the same problem.
Both lost the ip addressed that was assigned via dhcp. The addresses will
not renew. When you enter static information, IP address, DNS server, Default
router you only can ping devices on you network. you do not get name
resolution, or orther simple ip services. I tryed to telnet into the router
and it would't open the port. But I was able to ping the router. Traceroute
failed with out even making the first hop. I tryed uninstalling the network
drivers and reinstalling them, with no luck. Even tryed a differant card
alltogether that to still failed.
Any help??????

The key word here seems to be name resolution. You don't tell us what you
use for this, but this troubleshooting article might help:
