I'm using an ISP that only offers DHCP IP addresses. I
can't get a static IP from them. I want to run a DHCP
server on my home network, but I keep running into
trouble since I have no static IP.

Can Windows 2000 Advanced Server use DHCP without a
static IP address, and where can I find the configuration
instructions?

Are you saying that the IP of the server if the IP provided by the ISP? If
so that would be a bad idea, unless you are intending this to be a public
server.

If it's a public server, you probably shouldn't be running DHCP on it.

Well dear you have to assign a static ip to the DHCP server.Coz it assign dynamicly ip to other computer's on network.You may assign the client static ip by adding the ip and there mac address that when that computer come online this specific ip assign him and no other client can use this ip address.You may start DHCP if you didn't install ADS.Control panel add/remove window components networking services detail from there slect the DHCP your cd of 200server should be in side the cd rom or the source must be copy on your computer harddrive.

You can not run local dhcp without a static address.

But where I think you are confused is thinking you have to
have the isp's ip to run your local dhcp. You can't have
yourself assign addresses and your isp.

If you were to put a router [$80] in you could set the
router to do dhcp for all your workstations. The isps ip
would only go to the routers wan interface.

If you are using ICS then you would have the one nic card
with the dhcp from the isp and you would assign the other
nic a static address [different ip address scheme than the
isps] and set up the ICS machine to do dhcp to your local
subnet.
