I have a Windows XP Professional PC that can connect to
my intranet, but not to the internet via a Linksys WCG200 gateway.
When I set the TCP/IP properties to automatically acquire IP address
and DNS address, I see the first octet of the IP address as: 164.
And, I see within my system tray that my connection has limited connectivity
to the internet.
But check this .... when I set the Netgear wired NIC on my PC to an have:
a static IP address, let's say for example:
1) IP address: 192.168.0.45
2) gateway address to 192.168.0.1 , and
3) subnet mask address to: 255.255.255.0,
my PC can connect to my intranet. I verified that's the case by being able
to successfully pinig my WCG200 gateway and a second Windows XP PC,
successfully. And yes, I can ping from my second Windows XP PC to the
suspect Windows XP Professional PC. But yet, I can't connect to the internet
with the Windows XP Professional PC with the Netgear NIC. And no, the
Netgear NIC is not the culprit because the same results
occur with the Windows XP Professional PC having a Linksys wireless NIC card.
And yes, I ensured that when the NetGear NIC is enabled, that my Linksys
wireless NIC is disable, and vice-versa.
And, the above internet connectivity issue persists after having uninstalled
and reinstalled Windows XP Professional. Also disabling Windows Firewall
does not resolve the internet connectivity issue.
In closing, how can I fix the DHCP issue on my Windows XP Professional PC with
The NetGear NIC installed (and no Linksys wireless NIC is installed?
