(DHCP) consistently fails to lease an Internet Protocol (IP)

Since I upgraded my OS to W2k/pro, consistently I fail to
connect to the Internet via and Ethernet router.

The command ipconfig /all returns an IP address of
169.254.x.x with a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0; tracking
this problem, I found that the IP address I get
(164.254...) indicates a failure to receive a response to
an DHCP request, and Microsoft provides a fix for W95/W98
OS.

I never experienced this problem when, using the same
hardware, the operating system I used was W98-SE.

Any ideas on how to resolve tis problem?

Is your W2K fully patched?

I believe it is because, after the clean install, I
updated the OS with all of the software for W2K available,
at Windows Update site.

Than you might have been blasted during the windows update. You should never
connect a freshly installed W2K or XP to the internet before having ms03-039
installed. Have a look for the msblast.exe, mspatch.exe or teekids.exe in
the \winnt\system32 folder.
