Device manager unable to initialize .

Windows XP will not allow me to uninstall HP officejet G85 either through the
HP program uninstall or the add/remove. When I try and uninstall the printer,
it says: Unable to initialize, a problem occurred initializing the device
manager. I cannot run the software that comes with the printer, like HP
director and tool box etc so I am trying to uninstall the printer and then
reinstall the software and then the printer but the above message occurrs and
prevents me from doing so. Heeeeellllllpppp. Thanks.
