Please I ask has anyone else also Had this problem. I downloaded a Critical
Automatic Security Update 905749 ( not sure when Sooo Many) Recently I tried
to install a new ipod I bought and had problems syncing and iTunes keeps
saying no ipod detected..One of Apples solutions was to check My Device
Manager..The problem is when I opened My Device Manager It was Blank With No
Devices at all Listed.I started to search Microsoft Help and Support and
found an Article ID 914450 So Microsoft is and was aware of this Device
Manager Malfunction. I went through the proper channels contacting Microsoft
Support and after a 4 hour remote assist session last night we had to give up
troubleshooting as it ran on until 2AM in the morning..(and I had to sleep) I
am running Windows Home Edition XP-SP2 IE.7 on a Toshiba laptop Satellite
A85-S107..Even System Restore would not work and as I do not know when I
downloaded the Security update and have not had to open The Device Manager in
over 9 months.So this is why I am just finding out about The Device Manager
Malfunction..Sorry for being so long winded about this problem But trying to
give all the information I Have.. Thanks for looking..

If I had spent four hours with Microsoft Help (plus probably another
four of my own time) then I would go for the solution below. It is
guaranteed to deliver the desired result:
1. Back up all data files.
2. Back up all EMail files.
3. Test the backed up files (including the EMail files).
4. Reload Windows, allowing the disk to be formatted.
Alternatively, if available, do a factory restore.
5. Reload all applications.
6. Restore all data.

The process might take another four hours, plus a rat tail of
small issues that will take a week to resolve. It will give you
a clean machine that will recognise your iPod.

To avoid similar issues in future, consider investing in an
imaging product such as Acronis TrueImage.

I have had the same problem since May (occured with a update) and have tried
everything and nothing has worked. I still do not have any sound. I know some
said you wouldn't find any info on device manager to use AC97 Audio
Controller. but never found this.

Friend I contacted Microsoft support and they were aware of this problem
after downloading Security Update 905749..I must admit they did take
responsibility for the problem and they did fix it remotely at no Charge as
it was their fault..Good luck if your problem is the same Contact Microsoft
