Device drivers not automatically installed - XP Pro SP2

Hello,

I'm having an issue with a freshly installed Lenovo T60 running XP Pro SP2
with all latest updates, some of the basic IBM utility software loaded on
it.

Due to a conflict with the base install pre-loaded from IBM and a 3rd party
software package I needed to reload just windows and update from there to
avoid the conflicts. This meant running the recovery from the IBM tools and
halting the sysprep process where it would have also re-installed all of the
original apps.

Windows runs fine with one exception and it's a real annoying one.

When I connect any USB device a yellow ? comes up in System...Devices - none
of the devices are loaded automatically, I have to click on each device and
select "update drivers". All of the devices are plug and play, non-3rd party
driver devices (like USB mass storage devices).

Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? The services are all
running, the IBM software is showing the devices (after they are active with
drivers installed and resources allocated) but I'm really at a loss.

Regards,
gp

Sorry to use an existing thread but I am not able to create a new thread.

I purchased Win XP PRO SP/1A so I could run a repair. The problem I am
having is windows sometimes does not come up. All I get is a screen with no
icons and no Start button. I have to keep rebooting and it eventally comes
up.
The only option on my win XP CD is to to a new install or an upgrade. I ran
the upgrade but it still did not fix the problem.
Should there be an option for repair. I don't see it.
Any help is appreciated on how to resolve this problem.

I'm sorry, but we don't have enough information to give you focused
help. It sounds like you have hardware problems, but there is no way to
be sure. Back up your data and do a clean install. If that doesn't
work, do hardware troubleshooting. In addition, the reason you are
having difficulty posting is that you are using the awful web
interface. Set up a newsreader instead, which is very easy to do. Then
if you need more help, make a new post.

And about the newsreader:

Since you are using the web interface, you may not realize that this is
really a newsgroup. You will get far more out of this resource if you
learn to use a newsreader. There are many good newsreaders for Windows,
but you can use Outlook Express since you already have it. Here are
some links to information about newsgroups:

How do I run a diagnostic to determine if I have a hardware problem?
